Angles 9 – Injuries (CF 303)
By the time Charlie Haden founded the Liberation Music Orchestra in 1969, the link between free jazz and the American freedom struggle was well established. By having his large band perform arrangements of tunes from the Spanish Civil War, he broadened that association and aligned the music with a worldwide struggle against brutality and injustice.

The LMO’s example may well have been on Swedish saxophonist Martin Küchen’s mind as he has grown Angles into its current nine-piece configuration. Not only is Küchen an unabashedly political artist determined to call out fascism and warmongering, he’s also, like Haden, a musician of broad musical interests. Küchen is equally persuasive playing ultra-minimal whispers with the trio Looper, peeling back the paint in full-on free jazz mode with the Trespass Trio, and using stark melodies to embody anguish in solo performances.

Angles is his forum for composition and arrangement. With five horns, a vibraphone, rhythm section, and a pair of pianos on hand, played by great players including Johan Berthling, Magnus Broo, and Mattias Ståhl, it affords him a deep store of sonic and emotional resources, and he makes good use of both. Injuries was recorded in a studio that was once a movie theater, and its spaciousness may well have contributed to the album’s clear presentation of some outsized instrumental voices. On “European Boogie,” you get the feel of air moving back and forth as keyboard and mallets exchange patterns, and the contrasting densities of massed brass, suspended vibes, and low, swaggering drumbeats on the South African-flavored “Ubabba” convey a sense of vertical space; this music feels like it stands tall.

The music’s emotional range is as broad as its sound. While “Ubabba” engenders infectious jubilation, the title tune’s Iberian-tinged theme expresses an Ayler-esque degree of pathos. And while it’s not exactly rare for people to try and play like Albert Ayler nowadays, it’s another thing entirely to plumb his extremes of joy and despair. Ayler wanted to heal the world with music; the record’s liner notes articulate the realization that no single revolution is going to redeem mankind. The job will never be over, and thus there will always be a need for artists like Küchen to both challenge and uplift with stout-hearted passion, disciplined musical organization, and a facility with a sturdy tune. The struggle continues.

The 2014 NPR Music Jazz Critics Poll

NPR Music is pleased to present a poll in which 140 jazz critics picked their favorite recordings of 2014.

For nine consecutive years, this poll has been a labor of love by eminent critic Francis Davis. It’s grown tremendously since he initially submitted the consensus of 30 writers to The Village Voice in 2006. Over the last month, print journalists, bloggers and broadcasters nominated more than 700 different albums. We’re thrilled to welcome his exhaustive project back to our site.

Adam Lane’s Full Throttle Orchestra – Live in Ljubljana (CF 307)

Lane quase que abre demasiado o jogo, nas notas de apresentação, referindo Duke, Mingus, Muhal ou Parliament. Ao introduzir ‘Ashcan Rantings’, incorpora na sua exposição ao contrabaixo os nomes de Jimmy Blanton, Richard Davis ou Bootsy Collins. Com orgulho proletário, menciona ainda os de James Jamerson e Carol Kaye. Soa, por vezes, mais convincente do que aquilo que na realidade é. Mas há muito que não surgia um octeto, assim, apto em ir de “Birth of the New Cool” (Sonny Criss, com arranjos de Horace Tapscott) até, digamos, a “Ming” (David Murray), ficando apenas a dever ao nível da capacidade de síntese e da agilidade nas dinâmicas. Ilustra um namoro de verão com formas canónicas – trazendo à memória Don Ellis – e possui fundações edificadas a partir de robustas linhas de baixo que não destoariam num álbum de Graham Collier. Cada um dos seus solistas comanda atenções como uma avioneta a sobrevoar praias. Já Martin Küchen, à frente de nove executantes, redige no livreto qualquer coisa com a pertinência de uma bula num genérico. No seu pior, lembra o que fariam Archie Shepp, Gato Barbieri ou Carla Bley com as compilações “Éthiopiques” no gira-discos. Mas também põe a descoberto uma beleza a todos os níveis planificada que praticamente desapareceu do jazz de hoje.

Τα καλύτερα του 2014
Από μουσική σκοπιά το 2014 ήταν αποκαλυπτικό και ταυτόχρονα βαρετό. Οι κρίσεις για τη μουσική που κυκλοφορεί γίνονται όλο και περισσότερο υποκειμενικές. Η τάση είναι να μην συμφωνούν στα καλύτερα της χρονιάς ούτε το αριστερό με το δεξί αυτί. Οι ακροάσεις είναι μοναχικές. Κατεβάζω και ακούω ένα άλμπουμ, μου αρέσει αλλά δεν το μοιράζομαι ούτε με τον πιο αγαπημένο μου φίλο, δεν έχω χρόνο πλέον, δεν τον συναντώ πλέον, δεν με ενδιαφέρει να μοιράζομαι πλέον, δεν με νοιάζει η γνώμη κανενός πλέον.

Τους τελευταίους 12 μήνες πέρασα βιαστικά από την μηχανή περίπου 2000 άλμπουμ νέων μουσικών με ούγια 2014. Μου άρεσαν πολύ περίπου 80, τα οποία θα τα κουβαλήσω και στο υπόλοιπο του βίου μου. Η διαδικασία έχει αρχίσει κάπως να με κουράζει αλλά παραμένει η μόνη αξιόπιστη. Κατέβασμα, βιαστική ακρόαση, διαλογή, προσεχτικότερη ακρόαση, διαλογή, συμπέρασμα. Για τα τελείως άγνωστα ονόματα επηρεάζομαι πλέον μόνο από το εξώφυλλο και την ετικέτα. Σπανίως ανατρέχω σε περιοδικά και κριτικές. Έπειτα από 15 χρόνια διέκοψα την συνδρομή μου στο Wire.
Ακολουθούν τα καλύτερα της χρονιάς. Τα σχόλια είναι αυτά που τα συνόδευαν στις περιοδικές στήλες Clinamina με κάποιες μικρές αλλαγές.

Τα 11 πιο αγαπημένα μου άλμπουμ του 2014

Sonar – Static Motion
Το Static Motion είναι το δεύτερο άλμπουμ των Sonar, της τετράδας Stephan Thelen και Bernhard Wagner (κιθάρες), Christian Kuntner (μπάσο) και Manuel Pasquinelli (τύμπανα). Από τη μια νομίζεις ότι ακούς μια συνέχεια του αριστουργηματικού ντεμπούτου τους A Flaw Of Nature και από την άλλη νομίζεις ότι δεν έχεις ξανακούσει τέτοιο πράγμα στη ζωή σου. Το μυστικό παραμένει στις αρμονικές που παράγει το παίξιμο στις κιθάρες. Δεν πιστεύω ότι υπάρχει άλλη μπάντα στον πλανήτη που να παίζει τέτοια μουσική, ένα μοναδικό απόσταγμα post-art-math rock. Όλα τα κομμάτια είναι μαγικά, αλλά τα 18 πιο ονειρικά δευτερόλεπτα βρίσκονται ανάμεσα στο 2.29 και στο 2.47 του Tranceportation.

Aidan Baker – Triptychs. Variations on a Melody
Ο αγαπημένος μου Aidan μοιράζει το χρόνο του σε δεκάδες διαφορετικά πράγματα αλλά η ενασχόλησή του με μουσικές σαν την παρούσα φαίνεται πως του ταιριάζει περισσότερο. Τα “Τρίπτυχα” είναι μια απλή μελωδία, η οποία παραλλάσσεται 13 φορές, κάθε φορά με άλλο όργανο. Η δομή της μελωδίας, η συγγένειά της με τις Γυμνοπαιδίες του Satie και η σχέση της με την αποκαλούμενη “furniture music” αναλύονται σε εξειδικευμένες ιστοσελίδες. Αγαπημένες μου παραλλαγές είναι οι δύο πιανιστικές, του Aki Yakamoto και του Peter Broderick, οι δύο μπασιστικές, του Leah Buckareff στο ηλεκτρικό και του David Nesselhauf στο κοντραμπάσο και οι δυο κιθαριστικές, η μια με ηλεκτρική και η άλλη με ακουστική κιθάρα, παιγμένες από το συνθέτη.

Sleaford Mods – Divide & Exit
Το ντουέτο Jason Williamson και Andrew Fearn έχει αρχίσει να γίνεται σχεδόν διάσημο. Το Divide and Exit δεν είναι καλύτερο του περσινού τους Austerity Dogs, είναι πιθανώς ισάξιο. Το Tied Up in Nottz (with a z you cunt) είναι ένα από τα καλύτερα κομμάτια της δεκαετίας. Θεωρώ ότι αυτή η μπάντα είναι το σημερινό πανκ. Είναι αλήτες, μίνιμαλ, κόκκαλοι, χύμα, ατόφιοι, γνήσιοι. Το βλέπω στις φάτσες τους, το νιώθω στους τρόπους τους, το ακούω στους στίχους τους. Ο Williamson είναι ο νέος home hero. Δηλώνω φανατικός τους.

Vilde & Inga – Makrofauna
Είναι η Vilde Sandve Alnaes στο βιολί και η Inga Margrete Aas στο κοντραμπάσο, νεαρές και οι δύο. Κυκλοφορούν στην ECM και παίζουν φοβερή αφαιρετική πειραματική τζαζ, που δεν θυμίζει ακριβώς τζαζ αλλά μοντέρνα σύνθεση. Κορυφαία τα Under Bakken, Rotter και Loss.

Schloss Mirabell – Ghosthour Diary
Είναι η Florina Speth, της οποίας το βιογραφικό είναι πραγματικά εντυπωσιακό. Στα έξι της μάθαινε τσέλο και πιάνο και τώρα στα τριάντα της κάνει διδακτορικό στην νευρομουσικολογία. Το Ghosthour Diary γράφτηκε τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες, λίγο πριν από τον ύπνο, την ώρα που βγαίνουν τα φαντάσματα. Είναι κατά κύριο λόγο πειραματικό ηλεκτρονικό/ ηλεκτροακουστικό με μερικά σκόρπια φωνητικά. Το Feines Sanft που κλείνει το άλμπουμ είναι ένα από τα καλύτερα κομμάτια της δεκαετίας.

Baloni – Belleke (CF 305)
Η σύνθεση τραβάει αμέσως την προσοχή. Joachim Badenhorst στο μπάσο κλαρινέτο, κλαρινέτο και τενόρο σαξόφωνο, Frantz Loriot στη βιόλα και Pascal Niggenkemper στο κοντραμπάσο. Το δεύτερο άλμπουμ της μπάντας κινείται ανάμεσα στην μοντέρνα μουσική δωματίου και στην αβάν-γκαρντ πειραματική τζαζ, με τις συνθέσεις να κλίνουν πότε προς τη μια και πότε προς την άλλη πλευρά. Αγαπημένες μου συνθέσεις τα “αργά”
Mon seul desir και Building Nothing Out of Something.

David Thomas Broughton & Juice Vocal Ensemble – Sliding the Same Way
Επιτέλους, το παλικάρι μου επέστρεψε. Αυτήν τη φορά με παρέα. Τις Juice Vocal Ensemble, το γυναικείο τρίο από το Λονδίνο που πειραματίζεται αποκλειστικά με τα φωνητικά και τα τελευταία χρόνια έχει συνεργαστεί με την αφρόκρεμα της avant garde σκηνής (και όχι μόνο). Αν και η συνεργασία έχει τις ιδιαιτερότητές της, δεν πιστεύω ότι θα μπορούσε ποτέ κάποιος ή κάτι να καπελώσει την μεγαλειώδη, βαθιά και θεατρική φωνή του David. Το In Service είναι κομματάρα αιώνια. Με συγκινεί επίσης το οκτάλεπτο The Promise με τις γυναικείς φωνές να έχουν τη μερίδα του λέοντος.

Land Observations – The Grand Tour
Είναι ο Βρετανός James Brooks, o κιθαρίστας των Appliance, που ως Land Observations τον είχαμε τσεκάρει στο εξαιρετικό ντεμπούτο του Roman Roads IV-XI του 2012. Στο The Grand Tour συνεχίζει το μοναχικό ταξίδι του. Σε ολόκληρο το άλμπουμ παίζει μόνο ηλεκτρική κιθάρα. Ο τρόπος του είναι ξεχωριστός και το αποτέλεσμα κινείται κάπου ανάμεσα στο post rock και το kraut, σε πιο αφαιρετική μορφή. Αρχικά μου άρεσαν περισσότερο τα On leaving the Kingdom for the well-tempered continent και Walking the warm colonnades αλλά οι επόμενες ακροάσεις αποκάλυψαν τη δυναμική όλων των συνθέσεων.

Lullatone – While Winter Whispers
Το γιαπωνέζικο ντούο από την Ναγκόγια συνεχίζει το μοναδικό του ταξίδι στην κορυφαιότερη παιδική μουσική των ημερών. Ξέρετε τώρα, ξυλόφωνα, καμπανάκια, παιχνιδάκια, τσικιτσάκια. Στο While Winter Whispers κυρίαρχο ρόλο παίζει ο χειμώνας και οι χιονονιφάδες. Τα Prelude For A Single Snowflake Under A Streetlight Falling Like A Star, An Ode To Eaten Snowflakes και A Little Song About Snowdrops έχουν τους καλύτερους χιονοτίτλους και αποτελούν το αγαπημένο μου χειμωνιάτικο soundtrack.

Eric Thielemans – Sprang
Τρίτο προσωπικό άλμπουμ για τον Βέλγο περκασιονίστα Eric Thielemans, το οποίο αποτελεί διατριβή πάνω στα κρουστά και τις πιθανές ηχητικές τους διαστάσεις. Από τη πρώτη στιγμή που το άκουσα με συνεπήρε. Είναι η μουσική με την οποία συντονίζεται τα τελευταία χρόνια ο εγκέφαλός μου. Είναι πειραματικό, βιομηχανικό, προοδευτικό, τελετουργικό. Όλα τα κομμάτια είναι αριστουργήματα, αλλά το Garden θα μπορούσα να το ακούω στο repeat όλη τη μέρα. Κάτι τέτοια άλμπουμ με κρατάνε ακόμη στις επάλξεις.

Vera Kappeler & Peter Conradin Zumthor – Babylon-Suite
Η σύνθεση των οργάνων αρκεί από μόνη της. Vera Kappeler στο πιάνο, αρμόνιο, παιδικό πιάνο και φωνή και Peter Conradin Zumthor στα κρουστά, παιδικό πιάνο και φωνή. Το αποτέλεσμα είναι εξαιρετική αβάν-γκαρντ τζαζ. Καλύτερες συνθέσεις τα πειραματικά Tor III και Bontempi Var. I και ΙΙ.

De Beren Gieren / Susana Santos Silva – The Detour Fish (Live in Ljubljana) (CF 317)
Het is altijd weer bijzonder om te zien waar artiesten hun inspiratie vandaan halen. Neem nu De Beren Gieren met hun nieuwe cd ‘The Detour Fish’, opgenomen samen met de Portugese trompetiste Susana Santos Silva. Zij haalden hun inspiratie uit de forel: levend en gebakken! Dat lijkt bijzonder, maar ene Franz Schubert, ver voordat de jazz ontstond, was hun reeds voor. Hij schreef een heus pianokwintet rondom deze zelfde vis wat, niet geheel toevallig natuurlijk, eveneens een belangrijke inspiratiebron voor dit kwartet vormde.

De Beren Gieren is een relatief jong trio bestaand uit Fulco Ottervanger op piano, Lieven Van Pée op bas en Simon Segers op drums. Zij maken muziek op het snijvlak van modern gecomponeerd en jazz met een flinke dosis improvisatie. En was het laatste album ‘A Raveling’ uit 2013 nog een trioalbum, ‘The Detour Fish’ is dat zoals gezegd niet. Eén en ander hing samen met het Jazzfestival in Ljubljana waar De Beren Gieren optraden met Santos Silva, onder andere bekend van Lama. De opnames van dit concert zijn nu op cd verschenen bij Clean Feed als onderdeel van de nieuwe serie Ljubljana Jazz Series.

Maar goed, de forel dus. Dit kwartet slaagt er bijzonder goed in om beeldend te musiceren en zo recht te doen aan de gekozen titels. De Beren Gieren spelen soms zeer melodieus, om even later te culmineren in aritmische patronen vol dissonanten en verrassende, overrompelende klanken. De blaaspartijen van Santos Silva passen daar perfect bij, alsof ze al jaren samenspelen. Ook zij beheerst immers die combinatie van enerzijds lyrische expressie en anderzijds het vertolken van hoekige, dwarse dissonanten.

Zo bestaat ‘Aquarium Benefits’ uit een opvallende staccato gespeelde melodie door de ritmesectie, waar de piano en de trompet op soleren. De piano springerig als de vissen en de trompet lyrisch. Het geheel onderbroken door stevige stukken dissonanten, alsof het helemaal mis gaat in het aquarium. In ‘Weirs’ is in de pianopartij de invloed van dat fameuze Forellenkwintet van Schubert te horen. Het roept verder een wat vervreemdende sfeer op. De donkere klanken van de flugelhorn, het bonkende slagwerk van Segers en de spaarzame noten van Ottervanger. Klinkt het zo als vissen met elkaar praten?

Een hoogtepunt is ‘Slippery Men (On The Riverbank)’. Je ziet ze staan: de vissers, op de rivieroever op de natte stenen, waarbij het oppassen is dat je niet uitglijdt. De muziek hortend en stotend. Het water stroomt om je heen in het gestage ritme, soms kolkend als in een stroomversnelling.

So another year and another 1500 albums considered for review (and that’s just the ones we actually added to the list!). Taking a quick look back: this year Julian, Matthew, Chris, Ed, Antonio, Stefan, Josh, and Hugo joined the review team and we recently welcomed Eyal and Alfonso – you’ll be seeing more of them soon. 2014 also saw Martin Schray bringing the Free Jazz Blog to the air on SWR2, public radio in southern Germany. Friends & Neighbors – Hymn for a Hungry Nation (CF 310)
Den norske kvintetten Friends & Neighbors har helt siden starten vært inspirert av musikken til Ornette Coleman, Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders, Albert Ayler og den gjengen. De debuterte med innspillingen «No Beat Policy» på Øra Fonogram i 2011, og da den kom ble flere i det norske jazzmiljøet satt litt ut. Her møtte vi en gjeng musikere vi ikke kjente så godt fra før, som blåste oss av banen på en overbevisende måte.

Etter dette har alle musikerne markert seg sterkt i andre band, bl.a. Albatrosh, Team Hegdal, Frode Gjerstad Trio, Cortex, Paal Nilssen-Love Large Unit og All Included, for å nevne noen.

På deres nye innspilling synes jeg de går enda lengre i eksperimenteringen av frijazzen fra 60-tallet. Men samtidig er musikken innimellom veldig streit, særlig holder pianisten Oscar Grönberg de andre solid i jakkekragen, slik at det aldri glir helt ut. Ensemblespillet med trompeter Thomas Johansson og saksofonist André Roligheten befinner seg et sted i Don Cherry/John Carter-landskapet med Ornette Coleman som ledestjerne. Bassist Jon Rune Strøm og trommeslager Tellef Østvang ligger bak med ytterst kreativt spill som pusher de andre framover. Rolighetens saksofon- og klarinettspill er strålende, og hans tone i tenoren er «voksen» og flott. Johanssons trompetspill ligger tett på både Don Cherry og Bobby Bradford, men hele veien har Friends & Neighbors sitt helt eget lydbilde.

Spesielt liker jeg fjerdesporet «Give Me Jarrison» hvor de utforsker en side ved seg som ligger et stykke fra det vi er vant til å høre, men som er veldig dette bandet. På sjettesporet, «Ceramic Inside», får vi noen fritt improviserte strekk hvor særlig blåserne får strekke skikkelig ut, noe de gjør på en fremragende måte.

Dette er et kollektiv som over noen år har jobbet mye sammen, og som kjenner hverandre ut og inn. Derfor kanen eller to av musikerne gjerne også legge ut på vandringer uten at det blir «feil» for noen av de andre musikerne eller helheten. De andre musikerne henter bare «utbryterne» inn igjen, ved å legge seg tett opptil de ideene som plutselig er dukket opp og blir fulgt opp. Hele veien kan man høre at denne gjengen musikere, de senere årene har oppholdt seg mye blant de andre fritt improviserende musikerne i Europa, og med røttene i 60-tallet, klarer de på en strålende måte å kombinere disse med den moderne fritt improviserte jazzen.

Friends & Neighbors er et band som flere bør få øynene opp for. Et bedre band for en jazzklubb eller festival skal man lete lenge etter! Vel gjennomført!

Norge inntar verden

Norske musikanter og norske band sørger for at det portugisiske plateselskapet Clean Feed Records er et av klodens mest spennende. Her kommer tre gode bevis på det.

Friends and Neighbors – Hymn for a Hungry Nation (CF 310)
…her blir det ikke spart på noe.
Nå er det ikke sånn at Harald og Sonjas menn aleine skal æra for at Clean Feed Records har blitt et så spennende selskap. Selskapet, med base i Lisboa, har trukket til seg noen av de mest interessante musikantene fra begge sider av Atlanterhavet og, i tillegg til å være et uhyre produktivt selskap, så er kvaliteten skyhøy hele veien. I forbindelse med det siste slippet til Clean Feed er det hele tre “norske” utgivelser og alt ligger langt der fremme i løypa.

Kvintetten Friends & Neighbors stifta vi bekjentskap med første gang i 2011 da de debutertre med “No Beat Policy”. Pianist Oscar Grönberg, sist hørt på duo med Eldbjørg Raknes, trompeter Thomas Johansson, tenorsaksofonist og klarinettist André Roligheten, bassist Jon Rune Strøm og trommeslager Tollef Østvang var med da og er med nå. Det forteller oss om en gjeng som vil den samme veien – som har de samme idealene.

Ornette Colemans musikkanskuelse, bandnavnet til herrene er henta fra et berømt Coleman-album fra 1970, ligger absolutt i bånn for denne nye generasjonen også. Den tyske pianistveteranen Joachim Kühn, som har spilt mye med Coleman, har skrevet liner notes og føler seg veldig hjemme i uttrykket til bandet. Da er vi minst to!

I låter ført i pennen av Roligheten, Strøm og Østvang får vi musikk med en frihetsfølelse, men samtidig med klar struktur og retning, som forteller oss om et band som har solid tak på historia samtidig som de er i stand til å ta den med seg inn i vår egen tid. Solistene er alle strålende, musikken er tøff og intens og heldige er de som kan ha sånne venner og naboer.

Velkro – Don’t Wait for the Revolution (CF 313)
…mer internasjonalt og bokstavelig talt grensesprengende blir det ikke.
Til tross for at trioen Velkro har eksistert noen år og har kommet med ei skive tidligere, så har de makta å passere under radaren min. Det kan sjølsagt si en hel del om radaren min, men uansett så er Velkro registret nå og det har også vært et usedvanlig spennende møte.

Trioen består av portugiseren Luis Candeias på trommer, norske Stephan Meidell på gitar, bass og elektronikk og slovenske Bostjan Simon på tenorsaksofon. Meidell, opprinnelig fra Kristiansand, men bosatt i Bergen, og Simon har skrevet musikken og i tillegg er to låter kollektivt unnfanga.

Velkro tar oss med på en ganske så unik ekskursjon som inneholder elementer fra støy, hip-hop, alternativ rock, impro og electronica – uttrykker alle tre har vært borti – og når det blir rista sammen, så er det unikt Velkro som kommer ut i andre enden.

“Don´t Wait for the Revolution” er en helt spesiell musikkopplevelse og spesielt moro er det at musikanter fra tre så forskjellige land har funnet sammen i dette fellesskapet. Uttrykket er søkende, reflekterende, utadvendt, kraftfullt og tøft. Jeg er veldig glad for at Velkro og jeg endelig har møtt hverandre.

Zanussi 5 – Live in Coimbra (CF 314)
…i aksjon i Coimbra.
Helt siden 2001 har bassisten, komponisten og bandlederen Per Zanussi leda Zanussi 5. Det har ført til tre flotte skiver og konserter over store deler av kloden. Bandet med den originale besetninga tre saksofoner/klarinetter, bass og trommer er minst like sultne den dag i dag og denne festivalinnspillinga fra Coimbra i Portugal i månedsskiftet mai/juni i fjor, viser oss nok en gang hvilket strålende kollektiv vi har med å gjøre.

Saksofonene og klarinettene blir behandla på utmerket vis av Eirik Hegdal, Jørgen Mathisen og Kjetil Møster mens Gard Nilssen på trommer tar seg av “resten” sammen med Zanussi.

De fem låtene er alle skrevet av Zanussi og med ei så heftig frontrekke gir det åpning for heftige kollektive utbrudd – nesten storbandfeeling av og til også. Dessuten gir de mange horna muligheter for mange slags musikalske farger. Solistisk er dette herrer i toppklassen og det er helt tydelig at de lar seg inspirere av hverandre og det musikalske fundamentet Zanussi har servert dem. Musikken er melodisk, men samtidig åpen og fri og Zanussi 5 likner ikke på noen andre eller noe annet.

Slippet med de tre norske bandene er nok en bekreftelse på nivået på norsk jazz er skyhøyt. Samtidig er det en bekreftelse på at Clean Feed Records er et av klodens mest kreative, utfordrende og spennende plateselskap.
